Master Chef Steven Ng of Shang Palace presents ten premium moon cake flavours and a limited edition premium gift set to commemorate Mid-Autumn Festival 2013. Shang Palace’s moon cakes are available for sale between 16 August and 19 September 2013 at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore and in retail booths located in shopping malls island-wide. An early bird discount of 25 per cent is available for a minimum purchase of 10 boxes made before 11 August 2013.
Guests will be charmed with new fragrant creations that will surprise the taste buds. Instead of the traditional Ham in Mixed Nuts version, Chef Steven’s Mixed Nuts with Chicken Bak Kua Moon Cake will make an impression with its unexpected chicken substitute. Each bite will be an addictive blend of sweet and salty flavours with a generous filling of diced premium chicken bak kua mixed with walnut, almonds, macadamia nuts, cashew nuts, melon seeds and sesame seeds. The result is a savoury treat for guests who enjoy an exquisite moon cake that packs a punch of flavours.
Fans of the chilled snowskin variety will be tantalised by two new refreshing flavours – Red Bean Paste with Almond and the low-sugar Purple Sweet Potato. The former teases the palate with a marriage of velvety sweet red bean paste and crunchy almond.
The addition of almond lends a subtle fragrant aroma that lifts the senses. Made with less sugar, Purple Sweet Potato in Snowskin Moon Cake enchants with its delicious purée of nutrient-rich sweet potato – a rich source of anti-oxidants, vitamins and dietary fibre. Every bite guarantees nothing but quality ingredients that make moon cakes not only delectable, but also healthy.
In addition to the above new moon cake flavours, Master Chef Ng also retains the popular favourites in his menu. Guests with a penchant for salted egg yolks can take delight in the Baked White Lotus Seed Paste with Four Yolks Moon Cake. They can indulge in the traditional combination of glistering salty egg yolks embedded in sweet white lotus paste. Each portion is a guaranteed bite of the good-quality egg yolk and a good mix of textures and flavours in the mouth. Variations with double or single yolk are available.
A hit among the old and young, the Mini Durian Paste Snowskin Moon Cake will not disappoint with its bittersweet and fragrant pulp made from fresh durian. The thick filling is rich, yet smooth enough to seem like one is ingesting the real “king of fruits” itself. Guests seeking an indulging epicurean experience and those with an acquired taste for both the traditional and modern can try the Mini Bird’s Nest with Custard Snowskin Moon Cake. The winning combination of nourishing bird’s nest and smooth, rich custard make for a top-choice decadent gift for a joyous occasion.
Master Chef Ng also introduces a premium and limited-edition Shang Palace Signature Moon Cake Gift Set. It comprises of eight regular baked moon cakes (two moon cakes of each flavour) – White Lotus Seed Paste with Double Yolks, White Lotus Seed Paste with Single Yolk, Plain White Lotus Seed Paste and Mixed Nuts with Chicken Bak Kwa – encased in an exquisite and distinctive box. Guests will find this elegant gift setideal for loved ones and business associates.
Shang Palace’s signature Four Treasures baked moon cakes box set, which comprises White Lotus Seed Paste with Double Yolks, White Lotus Seed Paste with Single Yolk, Plain White Lotus Seed Paste and Mixed Nuts with Chicken Bak Kua is also available for sale this year.
