Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore Appoints Reto K. Klauser As New Vice President and General Manager

Singapore, 25 April 2014 – Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has appointed Reto K. Klauser as vice president and general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.  In his new role, Mr. Klauser is responsible for the success of the group’s first Shangri-La hotel comprising 747 guestrooms and suites in three distinctive wings set amidst 15 acres of tropical gardens.  He will also oversee Shangri-La Apartments and Shangri La Residences.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Klauser held a similar position at Shangri La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.  With more than 20 years of hospitality experience, he has played an instrumental role in the growth of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in China, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.

In the Philippines, Mr. Klauser served as area general manager from 2009 to 2013.  He was responsible for two Shangri-La hotels, two resorts, one Traders Hotel, as well as the pre-opening of Shangri-La At The Fort, Manila.  Under his leadership, Makati Shangri-La, Manila achieved the Asia CEO Awards conferred by the Ford Quality Excellence Company in 2011.

In 2005, he championed the creation of the Traders brand and the pre-opening of Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.  After five successful years in Malaysia, he garnered multiple accolades for Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou, including Best New Hotel in China.

Mr. Klauser is no stranger to Singapore.  In 2001, he served as Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort’s hotel manager before he was promoted to general manager of Shangri La’s Rasa Ria Resort, Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia.

His first Shangri-La appointment was director of food and beverage at the former Portman Shangri-La, Shanghai in 1995.  His tour of duty took him to Malaysia, where he was conferred the Tourism Minister’s Special Award for outstanding contribution to Sabah’s tourism.

A Swiss national, Mr. Klauser began his hotel career as a trainee in food and beverage at Swissotel Zurich Oerlikon.  He moved on to become food and beverage manager at Mövenpick Hotels International, where he acquired training and experience in the industry.
