As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa, Sultanate of Oman has started organising a series of activities for the school children of the neighbouring Saffanah School in Yiti, Muscat.
Under “embrace,” Shangri-La’s Caring People Project, the students and teachers of Saffanah benefit from the various projects and activities that the resort has designed.
The kick-off activity, organised in partnership with Dar Al Atta’a, was the “Health is Wealth” event. The resort’s hygiene manager, Rajalakshmi Joseph, visited the school and presented a talk on the health benefits of washing the hands and the importance of eating fruit and vegetables. After the short talk, the hotel’s CSR Committee invited the children for a healthy snack of a vegetable sandwich, fruit and water. A hygiene kit with toothbrush, toothpaste and hand sanitiser was given to each student who attended. The activity was conducted in observance of Global Hand Washing Day and World Food Day.
The next, and most recent, activity was a visit to the resort’s Adventure Zone. The students were treated to a morning of play experiencing the modular games, wall climbing and other facilities of the indoor playground. The activity allowed the children to have fun with their classmates and take a break from their usual study time at school. “We are happy to have appointed Saffanah School as the beneficiary of our ‘embrace’ programme. The school is very close to the resort and this makes it easy for our employees and guests to visit the school and support our initiatives. We are looking forward to designing more activities for the students,” said Herve Dubosq, the hotel manager of the resort and head of the CSR Committee.
