Makati Shangri-La, Manila Welcomes Alain Borgers as New Area Manager/General Manager

Manila, 26 September 2013 – Makati Shangri-La, Manila announces the appointment of Alain Borgers as the hotel’s new area manager and general manager.  In his new role, Mr. Borgers not only oversees his hotel base in Makati, but also directs the growth of the other Shangri-La hotels and resorts in the Philippines, namely: Edsa Shangri-La, Manila; Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa; Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu; and Traders Hotel, Manila. 

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Borgers was the general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Paris, which opened in December 2010.  

A Belgian national, Mr. Borgers brings with him more than 30 years of vast experience in the hospitality industry, 20 of which were spent working for Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

Mr. Borgers has spent a significant portion of his career in Southeast Asia and is no stranger to the Philippines – this post being his third in the country.  He first joined Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in 1994 as resident manager of Makati Shangri-La, Manila.  He was then assigned as general manager at Shangri-La Bali Dynasty, Indonesia. In 1999, he returned to Manila as general manager of Edsa Shangri-La, Manila.

His other key career dates within the group include being general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya in Indonesia and of Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort, Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, which was named Best Resort in Malaysia by the Malaysian Tourism Board under his leadership.

Mr. Borgers replaces Reto Klauser, who has moved to a new appointment as vice president and general manager of Shangri-La hotels and resorts in Malaysia, based at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
