Spot the Tropical Big 5 and Little 5 at Shangri-La's Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives

If you thought that Africa was the only place to go on safari, then think again! Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, in the Maldives, has created a new Tropical Safari for young naturalists visiting the island.
Located in the Maldives southernmost atoll, the private island resort of Villingili is home to unique ecosystems and the healthiest corals in the country. To celebrate the biodiversity, the resort has launched its own Tropical Safari complete with an alternative ‘big five’ and ‘little five’.
Young guests to the island will be presented with their own Island Safari Handbook complete with a safari map to help them spot a variety of land and sea animals. Young naturalists who successfully identify all 10 animals are awarded with their own ‘Top Tracker’ certificate.
Aimed at children of all ages, the Tropical Safari showcases the best of Villingili’s natural beauty and encourages youngsters to engage with the local wildlife when exploring the island with their family and as part of the Cool Zone Kids Club programme.
The island’s lagoon is one of the most biodiverse marine environments on the planet with eagle rays, turtles and black-tipped reef sharks, which all feature in the safari. The Dhondheeni, a Maldivian white tern, is a symbol of the Addu Atoll and can easily be spotted by little ones as it fishes in the coral off the island. Children can take part in the Jungle Discovery and meet with mysterious local creatures such as flying foxes and geckos. There’s also the highly competitive Crab Hunting and Racing as well as an educational and informative Underwater Adventure where children will learn interesting facts about the marine life at Villingili.
Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa is a natural island and is committed to preserving the local environment. The Island Safari Handbook also shares tips on how to be a green islander and encourages young guests to learn about the habits and preservation of the ‘big five’ and ‘little five’.
Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa also launched a Young Families Offer with an array of fun-filled activities including access to the Cool Zone Kids Club.
