Kuala Lumpur, 18 October 2013 – Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur will be organizing a Swiss Week from 31st October to 9th November. The Swiss Week promotion is held in collaboration with Switzerland Tourism, Zurich Tourism and the Swiss Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
Specially flown in from St. Moritz, Switzerland, Chef Reto Mathis will be showcasing some of his culinary classics, together with Lafite’s chef de cuisine Jean Philippe Guiard’s classic French cuisine.
Reto Mathis, a renowned chef from St Moritz, Switzerland is the founder of the St Moritz Gourmet Festival, to which famous master chefs from around the world are invited and gourmet guests can savour their cuisines. He also runs Mathis Food Affairs and owns six restaurants atop Corviglia in St Moritz, at an altitude of 2,486 metres where skiers, hikers and lifestyle artists converge to enjoy his classic as well as contemporary Swiss dishes.
With both extraordinary chefs cooking hand in hand, guests can expect some unique classic and retro French cuisine with a nice blend of Swiss influence dishes from them. Carpaccio of air cured beff, Sbinz and Fresh Mushroom Shaves, Mountain Cheese Quiche with Lamb Lettuce, Confit of Lake Trout with Vegetables Mediteranian Style, Tomato Vinaigrette & Herbs, Sliced Veal Zurich Style with Golden Rosti Potatoes, and Apple Rosti with Apple Sherbet & Calvados Sauce are just some of the mouth-watering dishes that will be presented by them during this promotion.
Swiss wines such as Aigle Chablais AOC “Les Murailles” 2012 and Yvorne Chablais AOC Pinot Noir Barrique “Lettres de Noblesse” 2010 will be available for pairing with the three-course (MYR 220++) and five-course (MYR 320++) special menus.
Guests are welcome to lavish in Lafite on the special Swiss brunch buffet for MYR 150++ prepared by both the chef on November 3. Apart from that, on Saturdays – November 2 and 9, it will be open for brunch especially for private events.
In an effort to promote local art, at the Lafite foyer, a showcase of artworks depicting Switzerland called ‘Crossover 2013’, painted by students from One Academy in Kuala Lumpur, will be on display and the top 3 artworks will be elected by specially invited guests that are attending the opening night on the 30th October through their votes.
Another activity that will be conducted during Swiss Week is a cooking competition at Kolej Damansara Utama. Guest chef Reto together Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur’s Executive Chef, Rudolf Kunkel will be the key judges and the winning junior chef team will have the honour to cook for the Swiss Ambassador at Lafite on November 7. The winners of the art competition by the One Academy students will also be invited for an exclusive lunch at Lafite with Dr Rolf Lenz, the Swiss Ambassador to Malaysia, on the same day.
