At Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, one of the biggest resort islands in Maldives, one may cherish the festive season. The carefully prepared activities include tempting gourmet cuisine and wine events, unique tailor made moments to remember as well as adventures and fun for the whole family.
Celebrations commence on 20 December 2013 with a traditional Tree Lighting Ceremony, accompanied by soft serenading by the Villingili Carollers, composed of local and international talents from the staff of the resort.
Head Sommelier of Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort&Spa, Winnie Toh, who has recently received the Wine Spectator’s 2013 Award of Excellence for the outstanding wine list of the resort, will host two wine tastings. First up, Wine and Health will take place on 20 December in the organic Chef’s Garden, where the discussion will be “Relations between Good Health and Moderate Wine Consumption”. Secondly, Impressive Italy on 27 December in the Wedding Pavilion will see Winnie share her passion for Italian wines with a dazzling backdrop of the rolling ocean waves. Both events are US$55++ per person including wine and should be booked in advance.
On 22 December, Mr. Nicolas Delion, brand ambassador for Taittinger champagne house, will expouse the soul and character of this exclusive champagne from Reims during the Taittinger Champagne Gala Dinner, an intimate five-course champagne and food pairing experience at Fashala restaurant. The dinner is US$250++ per person or half and full board supplement of US$170++.
On Christmas Eve, Javvu restaurant celebrates the magic of Christmas with a sumptuous Christmas Eve Festive Buffet with traditional delicacies from around the world and live musical entertainment by the Goodtimes Band. For those guests who prefer a more tranquil setting, Fashala’s Silent Night Christmas Dinner is the right choice to indulge in gourmet dishes prepared with fresh ingredients from Addu Atoll and paired with special wine selection. Price is US$220++ per person at Javvu, half and full board supplement is US$140++, and US$240++ per person at Fashala, half and full board supplement is US$160++.
On 27 December, guests of the resort will be enchanted by the bustling setting of a lively local fisherman’s market and will savour the freshest catch from the surrounding sea in the colourful Maldivian Fisherman’s Night Buffet Dinner, accompanied by a local Bodu Beru percussion and dance performance. The dinner is US$160++ per person, half and full board supplement is US$80++
A heavenly location was chosen for the Fashala Goes CHI, The Spa event on 28 December: the sanctum of spa. This tranquil setting, highlighted by the golden cupola and soothing waterfall, guarantee to sooth the soul in this atypical dinner location. Executive Chef Brian Porteus will pamper guests with a four-course set menu, paired with wines chosen by talented Head Sommelier Winnie Toh, perfectly complementing the locally inspired gourmet dishes of Fashala restaurant at US$160++ per person, half and full board supplement is US$80++.
Inspired by the opulence of Indian palaces and the extraordinary lifestyle of Maharajas, Dr. Ali’s restaurant will transform itself into mystical India on 30 December. For US$110++ per person, half and full board supplement is US$30++, guests will embark on a gastronomic journey with a set menu inspired by flavourful Indian cuisine with live entertainment by the Black Pearl band.
This season’s festivities will culminate with the Nuances de Bleu gala dinner on 31 December. The party will bid goodbye to 2013 indulging from the mystical blue shades of the Indian Ocean and into an array of international delicacies freshly prepared. The evening will start with fine bubbles of Taittinger champagne, continuing with the joyous live entertainment of the Goodtimes Band followed by contagious beats of DJ Kate’s live performance. Approaching midnight, the event will burst into a countdown crowned with a Villingili’s fireworks extravaganza. The dinner is included in the price of accommodation for all guests of Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort&Spa, Maldives.
The festivities will splash naturally into 2014: the first breakfast of the news year at Javvu restaurant will be a special feast with additional international cooking stations and enticing selections added to the already opulent breakfast buffet.
Throughout the festive season, the bespoke Dine by Design concept will be available as a special option for those adventurous food connoisseurs who would like to dine in a variety of secluded locations around the island and seek not only top notch dishes, but want to experience unusual exciting locations. Options include an unforgettable private barbecue party on the beach under the stars or a dinner in the jungle with a banyan tree as a backdrop lit by mystical fire of torches, just to name a few.
During the whole festive season young guests of the resort will be delighted by the many entertaining activities organized by the Cool Zone team. Every day will have its own theme with handicraft, educational and outdoor entertainment organized from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. One of the highlights will be the Island Fashion Show on 29 December where the youngest will sashay in the spotlight of the catwalk.
