On 23 March 2013, Traders Hotels, Beijing went dark for the fourth year in a row in support of Earth Hour, a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) initiative participated by many other countries. Between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., the hotel switched off the main lights in the lobby, the T-Bar, restaurants, the Traders Club Lounge, guestrooms, corridors and employee areas, as well as the lights on the exterior walls.
In support of WWF’s new event, Green Week, and to help its staff better understand this initiative, Traders Hotel, Beijing held a grand campaign for Green Week at Traders Garden in the afternoon of 20 March 2013. As environmental protection ambassadors, seven staff representatives spoke about seven environmental change efforts – go vegetarian on Mondays, use your own grocery bag on Tuesdays, take public transport on Wednesdays, use your own utensils on Thursdays, finish up all the food on Fridays, speak up for animal rights on Saturdays and enjoy the outdoors on Sundays – encouraging all the staff to do their part. The present staff signed up for their preferred environmental efforts.
Traders Hotel, Beijing has also launched a Green Week poll on its official Sina Weibo page to spread environmental awareness to more people and encourage them to support environmental protection by participating in Green Week.
