Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin has proudly invited a guest chef from Yangon, Myanmar, for its Burmese food debut at its Coffee Garden during May 13-26, 2013.
Burmese cuisine is quite new to most locals of China’s City of Ice. It is characterised by sour, spicy and raw flavours. Rice is the staple food, with curry, turmeric and fresh coconut grated as condiments and with pickled green fruit and fresh vegetable leaves as titbits.
To pamper guests with the authentic dishes, the Burmese chef will go any lengths to get and bring as much indigenous ingredients as possible to the hotel. His exotic menu this time features Burmese Tea Leaf Salad, Gold Red Pork Curry, Burmese Fried Rice with Satawpae, to name a few, all with home-made savour. In addition, some well-liked Burmese street snacks are available, such as Sticky Rice Ring with Brown Sugar Syrup, Steamed Sticky Rice Roll, Tu Tu Cake and so on.
Tea Leaf Salad, recognized as the Dish of Burmese Nationality, is highly recommended. A most-favoured food, it tastes dainty and refreshing, thanks to the native concoction of fermented young tea leaves with cabbage, tomato, peanuts and shrimp.
As the first five-star hotel of an international brand in Harbin, Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin is very active to extend authentic cuisines from around the world since its opening in 1999. Hopefully the Burmese food launch will divert the local taste buds.
