Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai Supports "Silk Roads to Shanghai"

On 16 January 2013, David Burns and Maghnus Collins Smyth, the two Irishmen who are on a 16,000-kilometre adventure, arrive in Shanghai, and their final stop on the journey is at Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai.

The journey from Istanbul to Shanghai named "Silk Roads to Shanghai" was undertaken to raise funds for Self Help Africa.  The team embarked on the journey back on 29 March 2012.  The journey consists of three stages: the first stage (8,500 kilometres) from Istanbul to Kathmandu by bicycle; the second stage (1,000 kilometres) from Xining to the source of the Yangtze River on foot; and the final stage of 6,300 kilometres from the source of the Yangtze River to its mouth at Shanghai by Kayak.  As of today, their initiative has raised €24,500.

As the final stop of the adventure, Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai has extended warm hospitality to the two-man team, including comfortable accommodation, an overdue hair cut and the hotels signature Wushu Body Massage to release the tension of 10.5 months of tough travel.

"David and Maghnus were on their journey for charity, challenge and exploration.  I've seen guest check in weary from travel, but this was something totally new to me. Most people endure a delay, some turbulence, loose a bag or the likes, but they had the better part of a year experiencing all of the above daily to get here. This is a great achievement and Kerry Hotel is proud to be part of it," said Peter Clarke, the hotel's general manager.
