Famous football star and ambassador for the Chinese Football Association Super League, David Beckham, arrived at Wuhan Tianhe Airport on his private jet at 8:40 p.m. on 22 March 2013. Beckham and his team arrived at Shangri-La Hotel, Wuhan at 9:35 p.m. after staying at the China World Summit Wing, Beijing and Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao. Hotel General Manager Eddy Tao warmly welcomed Beckham on behalf of the management.
The hotel got busy with preparations for the reception. The hotel chef’s and his team served the traditional Chinese cuisine, including the distinctive Hubei taste, for Beckham’s entourage. The menu included ribs lotus root soup, Wuhan hot-and-dry noodles, bean curd and other delicacies in modernised Western-style plates to cater to the guests’ dining preferences. The guestrooms were filled with pictures of Beckham’s family, and his daughter was given a pair of Shangri-la Hotel group custom dolls. The hotel also provided a personal butler who was available round-the-clock to offer meticulous care and service.
Beckham often showed his appreciation to the hotel with "thanks," expressing joy and recognition of hotel staff’s attentive care and considerate service. After the media meeting on 23 March, the football star invited hotel representatives to take a photo. Before leaving, he presented his personal butler with an autograph on his own jersey.
