EMBRACE People with Disabilities in Guangzhou

Since starting its EMBRACE Shangri-La’s Care for People Project in 2010, Shangri-La Guangzhou has been continuously supporting the local community to help people in need.  In 2016, the hotel committed to a partnership with Guangzhou English Training Centre for the Handicapped (GETCH).  The target beneficiaries will include students in financial difficulty, or who have outstanding academic performance or need physical rehabilitation.

GETCH is a non-profit, three-year college for students with physical disabilities.  GETCH was established and built in 1994 with funds raised from the public.  GETCH enrolls students from many parts of China who want to obtain English and business English degrees.  The school also provides many kinds of scholarships, financial aid, and work-study and internship opportunities to help the students complete their studies.  GETCH works closely with many employers, including Fortune 500 companies, foreign consulates, education institutions and philanthropic organisations, to overcome the traditional barriers to employment for people with in China.

In addition to financial aid, Shangri-La Guangzhou also organises regular volunteer activities with the students to provide mental care and guidance.
