A magnificent sight to all who beholds it, the Terra Cotta Warriors is truly a spectacle in itself. Guarding the mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, visitors to Xian are able to behold the legion of clay warriors, horses, chariots, soldiers and remaining infantry who are lined in chambers who were said to be there to assist his highness in the afterlife.

With many a tale surrounding it, this wondrous attraction holds many secrets which are yet to be unearthed. Out of those that were, one will find that this wonder of the earth, truly is spectacular. It is a well-known fact that no two warriors are alike. From the point of facial characteristics to the detail of the amour or attire, creators of the Terra Cotta Army had painstakingly taken means to ensure each clay statue was unique. In adherence to the wish of the emperor who wanted his army to guard and follow him in his afterlife; each statue is said to be a miniature version of each soldier.

Since 1974, when the first Terra Cotta Warrior was discovered, a frenzy of excavations has taken place in the decades up to now. Currently with approximately 2, 000 warriors uncovered, excavators believe there are 5,000 more yet to be discovered.  This legion of life-sized terra cotta wonders lie in order according to the ranks and status of each soldier, with the taller statues believed to be Generals. Each of these objects faces the tomb which they are to guard.

Out of the masses, around 120 objects from the tomb and 20 of the warriors were on display at the British Museum in London in the year 2008 based on a special exhibition.  However, currently the public is able to view them from the site itself, which is protected under the accordance of being a UNESCO Heritage Site.
