Yellow Crane Tower is located on Snake Hill in Wuhan. It is one of the more famous towers in Wuhan due to its legend and architectural style. With an architectural design from the Qing Dynasty, it stands 168 feet high. Whichever direction it is viewed from, the appearance of the tower is the same.
The roof has 100,000 yellow glaze tiles and the upturned eaves of the tiles have been made to resemble a yellow crane spreading its wing to fly.
An interesting legend has it that the original tower was built by a family as a mark of gratitude to a Taoist priest who had drawn a crane that could dance on request.
There are many exhibits on display at the tower. The first floor tells of past legends depicted on giant porcelain paintings, while the third floor displays beautiful poems from previous ruling dynasties. From the top floor, visitors are treated to a magnificent view of the Yangtze River and Wuhan city.
The location of Shangri-La Hotel, Wuhan makes the Yellow Crane Tower conveniently accessible.
