Wenzhou is the political, economic and communications centre of southern Zhejiang province, with a total area of 11,783 square kilometres. It is famous for its beautiful mountains, winding rivers and coastal scenery, and is also a major global distribution and international trade centre.
       
With a history spanning more than 4,000 years, Wenzhou’s ancient culture is complemented by modern architecture and facilities. Visitors to the city are not limited to business and commerce as they can also enjoy world-class shopping and entertainment in a city that, without being overwhelming in size, boasts one of strongest economies in China.

Visas are required for most international travellers entering Mainland China. Travellers carrying passports from Brunei, Japan or Singapore can enjoy visa-free access to China for up to 15 days.

Visas are readily available from Chinese embassies and consulates in most countries. A standard 30-day, single-entry visa from most Chinese embassies abroad can be issued in three to five working days. You can also make visa arrangements at certain travel agencies. Visa applications generally require at least one photograph.      

A 30-day visa is activated on the date you enter China, and must be used within three months from date of issue. Standard tourist visas are valid for 30-day visits and are generally easy to acquire, while visas for more than 30 days are often more difficult to obtain.

Many mid-range and top-end restaurants include their own service charge that varies. Officially, tipping is considered inappropriate and is discouraged.

Dress is generally informal in Wenzhou except on social, diplomatic or government occasions when a suit and tie is appropriate.

Neither intensely hot during the summer, nor bitterly cold during the winter, Wenzhou averages a mildly humid and subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. Average annual temperature is about 18C, with abundant rainfall during spring.
