Exploring Vancouver
Named after "Gassy" Jack Leighton, who opened the first bar here in 1867, this historic area of downtown Vancouver, once the "heart of the city" is now home to a collection of trend-setting restaurants, cutting-edge retail shops, intimate bars and colourful jazz venues. Old-world street lamps line the cobble-stone streets, providing additional character to a favourite local destination. The area, complete with steam clock -- a favourite photography spot -- was designated a provincial heritage site in 1971.
