Exploring Taipei
Taipei Financial Centre Observatory 101

Boasting of spectacular 360-degree views, Taipei Financial Centre Observatory 101 is one of Taiwan’s most sought after tourist attractions. Positioned ideally in Xinyi District, Taipei 101 is acclaimed as a landmark skyscraper which was designed by the renowned C.Y. Lee & Partners. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, Taipei Financial Centre became the tallest completed skyscraper in the world in 2003 and in 2004 the building was awarded the Emporis Skyscraper Award.  Today, it is recognised as one of the World’s seven new wonders and occupies an immovable position among the Seven Wonders of Engineering.

Taipei Financial Centre consists of 106 floors of which 101 are above ground and the remaining 5 are underground. This enormous structure features a fusion of Asian and International contemporary architectural styles and is designed to stand firm even in earthquake and typhoon conditions.

At the base of the building is a mega five-story shopping mall and occupying seven floors of the Financial Centre is the Taiwan stock exchange. It is also home to numerous stores, restaurants, cafes and clubs. The building becomes the country’s centre of attention on New Year’s Eve with special fireworks displays held each year.

However, the most unique attribute of the Taipei Financial Centre is its Observatory. The building boasts an indoor as well as outdoor Observatory offering the visitor the chance to enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. The indoor observation area is located on the 89th floor while the outdoor observation deck is set on the 91st floor. At the indoor Observatory visitors can discover breathtaking views amidst a cosy ambience, with huge windows, recorded voice tours in eight different languages, educational based displays and exhibits.  Just 2 floors away is the outdoor observation deck which stands at 391.8 metres above ground level. It is well known as the second-highest Observatory presented in a skyscraper.

To witness such far-fetched Taipei attractions visitors can choose to stay in any of the numerous Taipei hotels such as Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei that offers unmatched services along with a refined array of modern facilities.
