Exploring Singapore
Botanic Gardens

Renowned as the only botanical garden in the world that is open from 5am to 12 midnight every day of the year, Singapore Botanic Gardens was established by the founder and the great naturalist of Singapore Sir Stamford Raffles. First named as Botanical and Experimental Garden, the main purpose of this establishment was to cultivate crops which were of an economic yield. The current Singapore Botanical Gardens began in the year of 1859.

The main attraction in the botanical garden, the National Orchid Garden covers an area of 3 hectares houses a magnificent collection of orchids. Mini attractions of the National Orchid Garden include Burkill Hall and VIP Orchid Garden where the ground floor serves as an exhibition venue.  The Orchidarium displays a collection of natural species which the orchid lovers find as one of the best attractions in a truly natural setting. Orchids that are to be found in a tropical highland forest area are to be found in the Cool House which creates the setting of a natural highland forest.

The 6 hectare tropical rainforest in the garden has a history that overtakes the history of the garden itself. This tropical rainforest makes Singapore one of the two major cities to have a rainforest within the city limits. The newest attraction of the garden named as the Evolution Garden tells the history and evolution of the plant life on earth. With play area, water play area, mazes and tree houses with slides, Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden is a favorite attraction among kids.

Visitors are also given the luxury of savouring delectable meals from several food and beverages outlets serving different varieties of cuisine in a natural setting. Take back memories of a life time by purchasing an ethnic or nature themed souvenir from the botanical garden shop or the library shop.

Visiting the Singapore Botanical Gardens will unarguably be a unique experience. Visitors looking for convenience comfort and ease of accessing the attraction can opt to stay at Traders Hotel, Singapore which is located just minutes away from the botanical gardens.
