Shenyang Imperial Palace is China's second largest palace, and likens to a mini-Forbidden City in layout, only with Manchu features. Emperor Nurhachi began construction of the Palace’s main structures in 1625 and his son Emperor Huang Taiji completed them in 1636.
The main structure of the palace is the octagonal Dazheng Hall, with its coffered ceiling and elaborate throne. In the courtyard are the Banner Pavilions, now used to house an impressive display of 18th century military equipment.
The present palace is also a museum, with jade and ivory artifacts, musical instruments, antique furniture and both Ming and Qing Dynasty paintings.
