Exploring Shanghai
Yu Garden

Having existed for over 400 years Yu Garden is a truly majestic site of nature that should be a part of any visit to Shanghai. During its long history the garden has been damaged several times especially during the Opium War, but it has been subsequently been restored each time.

The garden today occupies 20,000 square metres of space which might be considered as a relatively small space, but this does not convey the impressive amount of attractions that are housed within its space. Visitors will find pavilions, rockeries, cloisters and halls. Halls are the most dominant item to be found here. Some of the halls that can be found here include Sansui Hall, Dianchun Hall and Yuhua Hall.

The first site that the visitors will encounter is the Great Rockery which is the oldest and largest rockery in the southern region of the Yangtze River. Visitors who climb atop the rocker will be able to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the rockery. Visitors will also find Cuixiu Hall at the foot of the rockery which offers various curio shops.

In a similar vein each of the halls presents a different aspect to indulge in. However the main feature of this destination is undoubtedly the exquisite Jade Rock. The main interesting characteristic of this rock is that when lighting a joss stick just under the rock, the smoke will end up coming from all the holes in the rock. A similar trick can be seen with water being poured from the top, resulting in the water pouring out from all the orifices in its surface presenting quite a site.
It should come as no surprise that with the impressive array of wonders that are located here that the garden has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Pudong. Guests of Shangri-La Hotel, Pudong will easily be able to access this destination and also can enjoy a comfortable stay in the city.
