1. What is the duration of the redevelopment?
Redevelopment work commenced in January 2009. Work is scheduled to be finished by the end of December 2009.
2. Which areas of the resort will be affected by the redevelopment?
The redevelopment is being undertaken in stages within the main building. The gardens and pool areas will be unaffected.
3. Which service areas are affected by the redevelopment?
The service areas, including the pools and gardens, are not affected. The pool area will remain unobstructed, and Kuda Laut Bar will be operating as usual. The Kuda Laut Bar will only be closed when The Beach House Restaurant (formerly "Sigi's by the Sea") reopens.
4. During which hours and on what days of the week will the work be undertaken?
Work activity will be confined to between 10am and 6pm daily, with minimal noise work on Sundays.
5. What is the extent of disturbance? For example, dust and noise from hammering and noise from the use of heavy machinery?
Work includes dismantling and removal of internal fixtures of the guestrooms. New fixtures are assembled off-site to minimise noise. "Floor to ceiling" noise barriers are in place to ensure minimal impact to guests in-house. Project staff will use the service elevators. The removal of waste and delivery of new room fixtures will be performed via the service elevators, unseen and inaccessible to guests. Delivery vehicles will use service accesses, again unseen by guests.
Guests will be notified 48 hours in advance of any significant heavy redevelopment work expected.
6. What sort of equipment will be involved?
Various electrical hand tools will be used throughout the redevelopment. Use of this equipment will be confined to between 10am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
7. What are the alternatives offered should work noise be heard when guests are relaxing in the gardens or at the poolside?
There is a shaded, quiet beachfront garden area at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, which is adjacent to and accessible by all Golden Sands Resort guests.
8. Will the redevelopment work be visible to guests?
The redevelopment, including equipment and materials, will not be visible to guests as the entire floors, including the "buffer floors" to reduce noise, are closed off to guests. Service access will be used by all project staff and for equipment.
9. How many workers will be involved?
There will be approximately 20–40 workers in each work area at any given time, depending on the work schedule.
10. What will the traffic be like at the resort?
Vehicles such as containers and trucks are restricted to a certain area of the car park and do not disrupt any access to the resort.
11. Will guests experience any disruption of utilities such as suspension of the supply of electricity, water, air condition, etc.?
There will be no interruption to utilities during the redevelopment.
12. What is the distance between the location of the redevelopment work and the guestrooms and other guest facilities?
Each redevelopment area will have "buffer zones" to minimise any noise with support from "floor to ceiling" noise barriers to isolate work noise from guests. The resort will monitor any issue of concern by guests during the work. Please be assured that there will be minimal inconvenience and impact to guests.
13. What about the rooms for families with young children?
Families with young children will be located as far away as possible from the redevelopment area.
14. Do you anticipate any noise-related complaints?
Precautions have been taken to minimise the noise. A senior executive member of staff will be available 24 hours daily to assist with any noise-related concerns.
15. Will the restaurants be affected?
The newly renovated Garden Cafe will be operating throughout. Peppino's will be merged in Phase Three with the redeveloped Beach House Restaurant (formerly "Sigis' by the Sea"). Hence, there will always be a minimum of two dining outlets open, including In-Room Dining. You are also welcome to dine at the outlets of our adjoining sister property, Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, which allows you to use your cross-signing privileges.
16. Where can I get more information about the redevelopment programme?
Our in-house television channel, Channel 21, plays an interactive video presentation on the redevelopment programme. Informative boards are also on display in the lobby and guests may approach any of the hotel's staff for assistance.
