Exploring Delhi
Lodhi Gardens

Lodhi Gardens stretches across 90 acres of land and is frequented by many locals and tourist alike for its well kept gardens, landmark buildings and serenity. Established somewhere between the 15th and 16th century by two powerful dynasties, the Sayyids and Lodis; these gardens were perfected in 1968, under the guidance of British aristocracy. Some important relics such as the tombs of Muhammad Shah and Sikander Lodi can be found here.

Muhammad Shah the third ruler of the Sayyid Dynasty has an octagonal patterned tomb that has the same style extending to the verandah. The tomb is perched upon a small hill, giving it prominence whilst it’s exterior so pristine that it easily attracts the eye. Apart from two other tombs that are existent on this garden, there is a mosque called Bara-Gumbad. This mosque is a typical example of an early Mughal era. The prayer hall is rectangular whilst there are five arched entrances. The exterior is beautiful with carvings and intricate Quranic inscriptions, along with coloured tiles. This mosque was built in 1494 and is a picturesque sight well worth a visit.

The Athpula Bridge is also an exceptional sight to behold with its eight piers and seven arches. Built under the Akbar’s reign, this 16th century bridge is a mini fort by itself. The National Bonsai Park is also situated at the Lodhi Garden, featuring a delightful collection of trees and plants in beautiful shapes and forms.

The fusion of romance and history mingles in the air at Lodhi Gardens, where you will find lovers strolling through the buildings hand in hand. Whilst the sun sets and a soft light envelopes the gardens the enchantment of the place will fill you. Take pleasure in the gardens that were painfully landscaped and envisioned centuries ago when you visit Lodhi Gardens. New Delhi is rich in heritage and has fascinating places to explore.
