Taman Botani

In the city of Putrajaya lies Malaysia’s largest tropical botanical garden called Taman Botani. Spread over 230 acres is 700 species of flora and fauna collected from over 90 countries. These gardens are divided in to five areas and can be explored on foot, tram or bicycles that can be rented from the vicinity. And on given days paddle boats can also be rented. Throughout Taman Botani you will find many interesting pieces of architecture dotting the lush gardens.

Upon entering the gardens one will come across the Explorer’s Trail which is a centre dedicated to providing useful information about the plant world. The first steps taken in to Taman Botani will take you across a canopy bridge over tree tops. Spot the Heliconias plants as you descend the bridge such Calatheas, Marnthas and the famous Traveller’s Palm. In the Vine Garden you will find a variety of vines such as Tecomarias. Most plants and gardens throughout Taman Botani will have reading material positioned for visitors to read.

Spot the Chinese Fan, Umbrella Leaf and Rotan Palm when you walk through the Palm Hill theme. In this area you can find over a 50 types of palm trees. Find plants that blossom in the sunshine and reflect the time of day in the Sun Gardens. Take note of the Brunfelsia flower also known as Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow which changes from hues of purple, pink to white. The Floral Gardens features an exotic collection of flowers from the Americas, Africa and the Asian Pacific regions. Admire the vast collection of Hibiscus and Ixora flowers at the Lakeside theme, amongst others. Nearing closer to the trail you can spot ferns that are said to be over 200 million years old.

Taman Botani features an impressive collection of flowers and fauna of which some are indigenous to Malaysia.
