Also known as the ‘Precious Pagoda of the Buddhist Relics of the Diamond Throne’, the renowned Temple of the Five Pagodas is located close to the Qingcheng Park in the city of Huhhot.  Among locals this famous ancient Buddhist Temple is called Jingangzuo Dagoba. The temple is believed to be the only enduring part of the ruined Cideng Temple built during 1727-1732. Since only five pagodas remain, the temple which now stands in Huhhot is called the Temple of the Five Pagodas.

Constructed entirely out of stones and bricks, the temple comprises of three main parts and is 13 metres in height.  The three parts are the base, the seat and the top which are the five pagodas.  In the lower seat visitors will come across fine inscriptions of Diamond Sutra. These inscriptions are written in languages such as Sanskrit, Tibetan and Mongolian. The upper part of the temple features niches that carry statues of Buddha which are gold plated.

Visitors arriving at this unique site will discover five pagodas standing alongside on the seat with only one standing in the centre. The four pagodas on the four corners are all five-storey in height while the one in the centre has seven stories. Intricate brick carvings are visible in the first floor of these five pagodas. 

Three elaborate sculptures are carved out on the northern wall of the Temple of the Five Pagodas. One of the most notable features here is the Mongolian Astronomical Map which is carved out in to a huge stone.  This illustrious map is labelled in Mongolian and is the first of its kind in the world.
