It is located in Erdos City approximately 185 kilometres from Baotou City. However, the Mausoleum does not contain the buried body of the great Mongolian hero. The site is merely a gathering place for Mongolians who wish to offer sacrifice to the spirit of their hero.
The Genghis Khan Mausoleum comprises of three main halls that are built according to traditional Mongolian yurts. These three main halls are linked by the use of corridors which are complete with paintings that depict the life of Genghis Khan. The memorial hall which is the main hall is positioned in the heart of the mausoleum. The most prominent feature of the main hall is the impressive 13 feet statue of Genghis Khan made entirely out of white marble.
The two halls set on either side of the memorial hall are identified as the West Hall and the East Hall. The coffins of one of the King’s wives and his fourth son are laid to rest in the East Hall and in the West Hall the arms and ammunition used by Genghis Khan are displayed.
