Known also as Mount Austin, Victoria Peak is a mountain in Hong Kong that provides the best location for a ‘perfect picture’ of this phenomenal city. Identified by locals as simply ‘The Peak’, Victoria Peak is positioned excellently in the western half of Hong Kong Island. Renowned as the island’s highest mountain, the peak boasts a height of 552 metres.
This striking landmark, which is immensely popular today, was hardly noticed during the initial six years of the history of Hong Kong. However, following the setting up of the Peak Tramway in 1888, the mountain came to be acknowledged as ‘The Peak’. The Peak Tram is considered one of the best and safest ways to explore the hill and its surroundings.
