Exploring Harbin
Siberian Tiger Park

The endangered Siberian Tiger is the world’s largest felid, recognised also as the King of the Forest.  During the 1980s China included this endangered specie in the first-class national protected animals list.  Consequently in 1996 the Siberian Tiger Park was created in order to preserve this rare and valuable animal.

Positioned to the northwest of Harbin towards the north bank of the Songhua River, the Siberian Tiger Park occupies a total area of 1,440,000 square metres making it the world’s biggest natural park for wild Siberian Tigers. The park is home to more than 500 pedigree Siberian Tigers of which only 100 can be explored by visitors. Apart from the remarkable Siberian Tigers the park is also home to White Tigers, Lynx, Leopards, Lions, Bengali Tigers and Black Pumas.

The outsized Siberian Tiger Park is divided in to ten main areas such as the young tiger area, the king tiger area, the mature tiger area and a walking area.  Apart from the walking area that is equipped with a platform, visitors will have to journey through rest of the park by a bus covered by wire mesh since tigers in these areas roam freely in open fields. For example, the mature tiger area which boasts an area of 360,000 square metres is home to 30 wild Siberian Tigers. Tigers in the mature tiger area are about 8 years old while about 40 more delightful and playful younger tigers reside in the young tiger area.

Apart from merely viewing Tigers, visitors can join in and feed them and even watch tigers preying on living animals. The Science Exhibition Hall displaying numerous pictures, samples and valuable information on Tigers is a popular feature at the Siberian Tiger Park which is rated as one of the most significant and must see Harbin attractions.  As a Harbin hotel located in close proximity to theSiberian Tiger Park, Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin provides guests with easy access to this popular tourist attraction as well as other exciting venues throughout the region.
