Exploring Fuzhou
Fuzhou is famous for its lacquerware, bamboo furniture and stone and cork carvings. The city is also famous for its 'clay people', small clay figurines painted in bright colours. A good place to look for souvenirs is in the Huadu Department Store, where you'll find paper parasols, jade combs, and other mementos.
Shops are open seven days a week, from 9 am to 9 pm; large shopping centres may stay open to 10 pm while night markets usually run their business up to twilight. Bargaining is only possible with private vendors in street stalls.
