Exploring Chengdu
Giant Panda Breeding Research Base

The Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is by far one of the top attractions to visit when holidaying in Chengdu. Home to quite a few giant pandas, the site plays a threefold role of being a breeding center, a research center and a museum that focuses on the well being and protection of these lovable animals. In China, giant pandas are only found in the Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi regions, and are well looked after as they are considered to be a treasured and endangered species.

The landscaping of the park at the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is scenic and picturesque, and is a beautiful sight to behold with its bamboo structures, hilly slopes, colourful flowers and lush greenery. The place has effectively combined the natural habitat of giant pandas with man made structures to enhance the breeding and rearing of the animals. Visitors are sure to enjoy the lovely sight of giant pandas up close. Apart from giant pandas, the site is also home to other forms of wildlife which includes different types of birds, and Chinese endangered wildlife species such as red pandas.

The Museum at the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is a must see when visiting the place. Opened up with the aim of improving public awareness on the importance of protecting wildlife, the museum displays interesting exhibitions, reconstructed models, fossils, pictures and paraphernalia of giant pandas amid other featured animal categories such as reptiles and birds. Famous for being the only thematic museum in the world which focuses on endangered wildlife species, the museum also hosts a library filled with plenty of documents and books on the subject.

The Giant Panda Breeding Research Base additionally houses a top research centre which not only focuses on the protection and conservation of giant pandas, but also on other wildlife animals whose populations have decreased over time.
