Occupying the very heart of Beijing, Tiananmen Square has the distinction of being the world’s largest metropolitan square. The 440,000 square metre quadrangle is capable of accommodating a crowd of 10,000,000.  Used in ancient times for the ceremonious declaration of who ascended the throne, today the Tiananmen Square is a popular gathering place for locals and tourists.
