Ms. Cheah was executive assistant manager – rooms at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, and held hotel manager positions at Pudong Shangri-La in Shanghai and Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing. She joined Shangri-La in 1994. She also held a wide variety of operational posts over nine years with the Westin Stamford & Westin Plaza in her home country of Singapore.
