In 2010, Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing established their first EMBRACE partnership with Dandelion school, a non-profit school supporting children of low-income migrant families. As part of the programme, hotel colleagues from various departments were appointed as mentors to the students with the aim to provide guidance, love and support. This is to help the students ease in and adapt to life and school in Beijing. The hotel provided funding support to the school to improve their learning and boarding facilities.
In 2012, Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing established another EMBRACE partnership with Beijing Experimental School for the Deaf. The hotel aims to provide training skills and job opportunities to students who are deaf or hearing impaired.
Highlighting Hygiene Awareness
In 2011, Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing funded and rebuilt the restrooms of Dandelion School to improve and address the importance of good hygiene and its relation to health. All Dandelion School teachers and students benefited from the improved facilities.
To further improve hygiene-awareness, Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing together with the help of their sanitation product supplier, conducted a workshop at Dandelion School to teach the correct method of hand washing. The supplier also donated stocks of liquid hand soap.
In preparation for Children’s Day, the hotel organised a " Make Their Dreams Come True" event. This event was to support the dreams of Dandelion School students who were from the lowest-income migrant families. This heart-warming event saw many children's dreams fulfilled and there was not a single dry eye in the house.
