As part of the effort to support the Baotou Children’s Welfare Institution, Shangri-La Hotel, Baotou, launched the ‘simulative family project’ in May 2011. Two simulative families have been set up, and six children have been assigned their own ‘home’ and have met their own ‘parents’.
The hotel created a humble and nurturing home equipped with the necessary furniture, some electronic equipment and goods for daily use. The ‘parents’ are social workers who have selflessly dedicated their lives to rearing an adopted family.
The hotel hopes that the children can grow and become accustomed to a somewhat more normal lifestyle with a family they can call their own through this new foster format. Within the first three months of being with their new families, the six children's physical and mental health has improved.
In addition to helping establish the volunteer programme, the hotel invited the children of the simulative families to enjoy the children’s drama “Pinocchio” and a festival buffet feast on 1 June 2016 to celebrate Children’s Day. The children’s drama was performed by the Beijing Children’s Art Theater.
