Since 2009, more than 80 volunteers from Traders Hotel, Beijing have volunteered for the hotel’s EMBRACE programme, Big Brother and Big Sisters of Dandelion School. They have devoted their time and energy in organising various forms of activities, such as monthly correspondence, catch-up sessions, movie dates, home visitations, etc. With their companionship, the small friends (or students) have grown with love and care.
Improving School Facilities
In the winter of 2011, the hotel donated two washing machines so that the students could wash their clothes.
In the summer of 2012, the hotel donated three refrigerators to help the school preserve fresh food for longer periods of time and incur less wastage.
Nutrition, Hygiene & Education
Two seminars on Personal Hygiene and Fire Life Safety are given at Dandelion School each year to raise student awareness on personal care. To help the students widen their views and open their minds, a project called “Trader's Hotel, Beijing Reading Programme” was launched in 2011. For this programme, hotel employees donate second-hand books to students and the hotel also purchases new books every year. On average, one employee donates at least one book during each drive.
On 7 May 2013, Dandelion School students were invited to the hotel to learn how to make rice dumplings under the guidance of the professional chef. In light of the recent Dragon Boat Festival, the hotel donated approximately 1,000 dumplings to Dandelion school.
