“Depicted here is the goddess of the night, sleeping in the sky above Tokyo. She shines in the horizon, and wears the sparkle of the sky. She comes from the land of Shangri-La, and the dream she sees, adds drops of colour to the world of night. The sparkle born from her dreams continues to bring happiness to the people of the East.”Aya Kato
Aya Kato attended the Aichi University of Education, before beginning her career in creativity. She has worked in television, advertising, fashion, interiors and publishing – both in Japan and abroad – but in 2004 she began to focus entirely on art and illustration.
She draws inspiration from the modern and mythological world and the culture of Hinomoto.
This interwoven cultural standpoint, and a firm belief in personal creative depth, informs her unique colours and style – as well as her mixed media approach, beginning all sketches by hand before transferring them into the digital medium.
Her engaging and evocative art has featured at shows across the world for many years, some of her personal highlights include the Rojo in Spain, the Flower of Memory in Romania, A to Z Art Show in Los Angeles and Scope New York. She has also created work for some of the world’s top brands, and even collaborated with acclaimed musician Tori Amos on her ‘Sleeps with Butterflies’ music video.
Aya aims to use her unique artworks and style to spread a broader appreciation of culture and living.
