Feringgi Grill, the premier grill at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang, Malaysia is offering the a la carte White Asparagus Promotion for two months only from 1 April to 31 May, 2014. This food promotion is back by popular demand as last year’s month long promotion was extended by request for regular guests and asparagus lovers.
Chef De Cuisine, Matthias Tretbar, has created a special menu to allow guests to enjoy the perennial delicacy which usually appears during summer in Europe. “White asparagus tastes less bitter and more tender than the typical garden variety asparagus. To cultivate white asparagus, tender shoots are covered with soil as they grow, so that they are not exposed to sunlight and will not turn green as asparagus normally do. Our White Asparagus menu features delicious ways to enjoy this versatile vegetable,” said Chef Matthias.
For starters, Chef Matthias has prepared starters of a piquant pickled white asparagus with tomato basil salsa and garlic bread and also stir fried white and green asparagus with strawberries, rocket salad and foie gras. Soup includes caramelized white asparagus crème with smoked salmon and caviar. Diners can also choose to savour main dishes of Canadian Cod, King Prawns, Pan Fried Scallops, Lamb Chops, Wagyu Beef Tenderloin and Braised Beef Cheeks with white asparagus, baby potatoes and a choice of Choron, Béarnaise, Hollandaise or Maltaise sauces. Feringgi Grill has won many state, national and international accolades and awards, including being listed in the first annual “101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around The World” by New York’s The Daily Meal. The outlet was voted “Best Restaurant” in the Malaysian Tourism Awards in 1987. It has appeared in Malaysia Tatler’s “Best Restaurants” list from 1994 to 2004 and from 2011 to 2013.
