Doing our share as stewards of nature
At Shangri-La Hotel, Xian, we have the Care for Nature project, which aims to preserve valuable habitats of species such as the panda and the golden monkey through the upgrade and maintenance of patrolling facilities. Moreover, local communities are encouraged to adopt alternative livelihoods, such as planting traditional Chinese medicines instead of collecting them in the wild, with a hope of reducing the pressure of human activity on the nature reserve.
The hotel has started to upgrade patrolling facilities for the nature reserve, including provisions of tents, sleeping bags and first aid kits which will aid the rangers significantly. The hotel will also provide Chinese medical seeds to the nearby communities so that the villagers can generate income from planting Chinese medicine in their backyards.
