Shangri-La Hotel, Wenzhou supports the Wenzhou Welfare House, Shangri-La’s Loving Home for nearly 200 children from orphaned backgrounds with a physical or intellectual disability. The home consists of two apartments whereby simulative families are set up allowing the children to have a better chance at developing themselves.
Shangri-La Hotel, Wenzhou began their 15-year partnership with the Wenzhou Children’s Welfare Institute on 1 February 2011.
Shangri-La's Loving Home
As part of their commitment, the hotel fully funded the establishment of the first Shangri-La’s Loving Home. This home was created in the hope that the children would have the opportunity to experience the genuine warmth of a home. The home is set up as a simulative family for the children, complete with a foster parent and incorporating home routines such as chores and family care between each other.
Through the family-style set-up, the children of Shangri-La’s Loving Home have learned to help their surrogate mother clean rooms and wash dishes. Also, older children naturally assume the mature sibling role and duties of dressing and feeding the smaller children as though they are siblings.
According to the teachers at the institute, both the physical and psychological improvement of the children in the Loving Home is greater than that of those in the institute.
The children have gotten accustomed to their routine of attending community classes for their studies. They engage in regular play and craft activities on weekends.
Hotel colleagues visit the home every alternate week to engage in various interactive and educational activities such as making dumplings and flying kites like one big, happy family.
