Independence begins with the young in Tanjung Aru

Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu

Over the years, Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa has contributed to the building of a Multi-sensory Centre, a room that provides multi-sensory therapies for children to stimulate their senses, improve communication, reduce agitation/fear, promote relaxation and improve relationships between the children and their families. Other programmes include adoption of four children with special needs and providing financial support for their education.

Work experience opportunities

The resort supports the company’s commitment to employing people with different abilities. This long-term commitment from the resort entails selecting departments that would be good for the candidates and providing training to perform tasks while making their way towards gaining socio-economic independence.

Growing a sustainable future together

35 resort staff and 15 children from the centre planted 50 pots of herbs (including lemon basil, sweet basil, lemon grass) and pandanus leaves were sowed. To ensure the programme is self-sustainable, a composting hatch was created with herbs harvested weekly and purchased by the resort to support the centre’s expenses.
