Farmers Market at Shangri-La

Back for another spectacular season, the Farmers Market at Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver brings community members together to support local, independent businesses. The second season of the Farmers Market will run every second Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until 22 September 2013 in the hotel’s plaza.

A new element for this year’s Farmers Market series is a lunchtime cooking demonstration by Wayne Harris, executive chef at Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver. Each market Sunday at noon, Chef Harris will feature products from that day’s market to create a special dish for the crowd to sample. Guests can expect to see signature Jean-Georges dishes, such as the Ahi Tuna Nicoise Salad with Sundried Tomato Vinaigrette, and brand new menu items like Halibut, New Onion, Apple and Coconut Salad with Lemon Verbena Oil.

From organic olive oils to artisan breads and pastries, all natural peanut butters to homemade jams, the Farmers Market at Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver has something for everyone. After guests sip, sample, savour and shop in the hotel’s plaza they can head up to MARKET by Jean-Georges for an exclusive three-course brunch menu, created using items from each Sunday’s vendors, and priced at CAD 29.

“I have a deep respect for the local farmers and suppliers in our community,” said Chef Harris. “As farmers, their ultimate goal is to produce high quality ingredients and products, whether that’s a juicy batch of berries, or freshly baked pastries every morning. I love that the products we’re using in our kitchen come straight from our city’s backyard.”

“Vancouver’s identity as a culinary destination is firmly built on a wealth of local, seasonal products available,” said Vito Romeo, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver. “There’s an abundance of farmers and entrepreneurs who are doing great things for our city. Their emphasis on sustainability reflects our values as a brand, and we’re proud to be able to bring this community together in downtown Vancouver.”

With an enhanced lineup of vendors signed up for the second season, the markets will feature products and samples from the following local purveyors:

  • Cocolico – Caramels, chocolates and dessert sauces
