Manila, 23 October 2013 – Makati Shangri-La, Manila dominates the culinary scene in the Philippines with the receipt of numerous accolades of its culinary team this year.
Over the past months, Makati Shangri-La, Manila’s Area Executive Chef Paul Lenz has led the culinary team in joining prestigious cooking competitions in the Philippines, such as the National Food Showdown, Philippine Culinary Cup, and Chefs on Parade (COP). Makati Shangri-La was awarded the COP Presidential Trophy for being the overall winner in the professional division at the Chefs on Parade competition.
More than thirty chefs prevailed in these competitions by receiving the top awards with their gastronomic creations. Last February, aside from Chefs Rommel Gabriel, Anatolio Bleza and JV Huevos winning the Great Banquet Challenge (the highlight of this year’s Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines’ (HRAP) Chefs on Parade), the hotel is also very proud of Chefs Conrado Mardo and Anthony Benitez for winning the gold medal; Rommel Gabriel, Vicente Cahatol and Rizalino Manas, who each received a silver medal; and Dale Dimaculangan, Bryan Dimayuga and JV Huevos who each took the bronze medal; and Edgar Santiago and George Mediante receiving a diploma.
During the Philippine Culinary Cup last August, Chefs Rizalino Manas and Bryan Dimayuga received the gold awards while Chefs JV Huevos and Vincent Cahatol received the silver award.
The team also joined the National Food Showdown last September with Jimmy Dugan, Yussuf Mendez, Dirk Fiedler and Kathy Zablan receiving gold medals; with Chefs Melissa Dosado, Aurea Occeña, Darel Pajarito and Ronald Dela Vega who received the silver award; Chefs Ericson Angor and Manuelito Azarcon who took the bronze medal; and Chef Erwin Agravia who received a diploma.

The Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines’ (HRAP) Chefs on Parade, is the longest-running culinary competition in the country held this year from February 28 to March 3 at the SMX Convention Center.
The Philippine Culinary Cup has become the most prestigious culinary competition in the Philippines. Now on its 4th year, the PCC takes on an even bigger role in providing Filipino chefs an internationally-recognized platform to hone their skills and showcase their talents in the culinary field.
The National Food Showdown started in 2007, spearheaded by TV Food Chefs, Inc., the foodservice subsidiary of ABS-CBN Corporation. It was originally organized to fill the void in culinary skills competitions. In 2008, it partnered with organizations in the regions outside of the National Capital Region (NCR), with Chef Wars emerging as the center of the National Food Showdown. Bringing the regions to participate in the National Grand Finals in Manila succeeded in making the showdown truly national in scope.
