Advanced Hospitality Management Program I

Course Objectives / Description

Hospitality describes a social relationship – that of host and guest – that exists in all human societies. This subject is as intellectually valid as the study of any other field of human relations. At the Academy, we recognize that good hoteliers must be able to see beyond their immediate areas of work to seeing the larger picture and beyond. The good hotelier is well versed in standards and processes but certainly not lacking in imagination & creativity. Only then can he or she anticipate the needs of guests and meet, even exceed, their expectations each time with poise and grace.

To nurture the 'Can-Do' mindset and personality, all candidates of our Advanced Hospitality Management Program must undergo an extensive curriculum that includes core subjects in Hospitality as well as General Management including critical thinking and leadership skills.

Learners will come to appreciate the inter-connectedness of departments within the hotel and its place in global developments. They will see the course not as the end, but as the start of an exciting journey into the world of hospitality; a journey where changes abound, and there is always room for making things better.

On completion of the program, learners would have developed a sound overview and critical understanding of the inter-departmental workings of an efficient and effective hotel – with specific reference to the Shangri-La model – in meeting the needs of its guest, in the smooth running of the hotel property and in earning a profit.

(For Shangri-La Employees) Target Participants

Full time level 3 staff, Assistant Managers, Assistant Department Heads, Senior Mangers Minimum 1 year of relevant working experience in sending hotel;

Enthusiastic, motivated and positive worker, good role model at workplace, identified for job rotation / expansion / promotion or possessing such potential;

Above average competence in listening, spoken and written English as English will be the main language of instruction and all assignments are to be submitted in English.

Assessment

Individual Subject Quizzes (administered at the end of every subject), on-the-job (OJT) Journal, Final Dissertation and Management Project.

Those who wish to submit assignments in Mandarin will need to seek special consent of the lecturer in charge of the subject and the approval of the Director of Academic Studies. Such requests will be treated on a case-by-case basis, subject to the discretion of the instructor(s) and Director of Academic Development on the validity of the request.
